Underground nuclear bunkers in the data center

Pionen White Mountains in Stockholm is the home of one of the most intense data centers in the world. It’s home to one of Sweden’s largest ISPs, and the sci-fi decor is enough to make anyone feel they’ve been transported onto a movie set.
The Pionen Data Center was once a Cold War bunker and nuclear shelter; its code name from those days, Pionen White Mountains, is retained to this day. Pionen is located beneath 30 meters of granite, so artificial sunlight, greenhouses and a giant fish tank are all implemented in the interior design to simulate a more natural environment.
“Since we got hold of this unique nuclear bunker in central Stockholm deep below the rock, we just couldn’t build it like a traditional – more boring – hosting center,” he said. “We wanted to make something different. The place itself needed something far out in design and science fiction was the natural source of inspiration in this case – plus of course some solid experience from having been a hosting provider for more than a decade.
